Why won't iTunes Play my music?

Monday ~ March 03, 2010

  • When I plug my iPod in and go in iTunes my music shows up right where its supposed to be - under music, but all songs are grayed out and I can't click on any of them to play, edit, or remove them.

I have the latest iTunes but it still isn't working.

Does anyone know anything about this??

  • unistall itunes then reinstall it. or go onto the apple website and look at the help thingy

  • because iTunes won't play music off of an iPod, rather it'll play music off the iTunes library itself.

The way iTunes is setup, is assuming that songs were either imported via itunes or purchased thru the itunes store. And as a result the same songs on the iPod would already be in the iTunes Library. So why need to play the music on your computer, thru the iPod?

The other scenario is, the copy of iTunes you have is not authorized to the same user that owns the content on the iPod. The music list will still show of course, but only the owner can remove them. Also you can only manaually manage the songs if "Manually manage" is checked in the iPod settings under itunes, otherwise it maintains sync with iTunes.
