What program should i use to open files with dat extension?

Thursday ~ March 03, 2010

  • You wouldn't open these type of files, they are Windows system operating files.

  • These are data files that are created by various programs on your computer. They are unique to the program that created them. You may be able to view them with Wordpad, but it is strongly recommended that you DO NOT change anything in them. If you did, it will probably prevent the original program that created them from operating. You might have to reinstall the original program.

They are generally not system files. System files have a .sys extension and are usually hidden unless to change their attribute. But for the same reason, you don't want to mess with these either.

  • You don't open them. You have no reason to, honestly. They are akin to System Files. Leave 'em alone & DON'T delete them. If they are connected to a program or App they will go away when U delete the Program/App.

    Good Luck, Leonard

  • You Can Use Many Like:
    Windows Media Player
    or
    VLC player
But first right-click the file-----open with-----(if you can see Windows Media player then click it, otherwise go to the next step)----choose program-----then look for Windows media player either in the list or click browse botton.

  • .Dat format is a VCD format.
You can try to used PowerDVD on the Computer to open the files.

But the Best Player i feel is Klite Media Codec to play almost all the video format and audiot format.
    google it. it free.
