it may have to do with a security clearance. When a government does a security check for someone working in the military or government, they spend a lot of time and money doing it. Sometimes where you travel to is restricted because the person has important information that a foreign country might want; they could be captured and tortured for that info.Because a person shares things he/she knows with their loved ones(wife/husband) usually the government/military must do a security check on the spouse/spouse to be. That means spending a lot more money and time for the new security check. Many times a person with a high security clearance is forbidden to become involved with a foreign national. They will be punished and or transfered to another area/job and possibly lose their own clearance for becoming involved. The way the government/military thinks is pretty complicated to explain here.

haha! Yes, I am. I felt a bit embarrased.
Anyway, Frank makes sense... there are so many things.. this country and boundaries thing simply sucks, but this topic has really captured my attention. I'd like to know how this works in every country, cos I'm guessing the restrictions are a little different from country to country, right?
Um.. could I be dangerous? :p

I heard somewhere that the fighter pilots are very restricted in their relationships. Some japanese guy said he couldn't, for example, go to China, and marry woman from certain countries, though he didn't specified which ones.
Is it true?
And if it is, anybody would know?
Also, this kind of restrictions are just for japanese air force or for other countries's as well?

Just out of curiosity here, rather personal question here I guess, are you interested in a Japanese fighter pilot that you are asking this question?

I was just a lowly seaman in the United States Navy, but since I had a "Secret" security clearance there were restrictions placed on which countries I could travel to for a period of 10 years after I left the Navy.

When I got married, my wife's background underwent a check to make sure that there was no danger of a security compromise. Had there been, I would have lost my security clearance and been assigned to a different job.
