Is it actually bad to eat homemade cookie dough?

Thursday ~ March 03, 2010

  • Only if there are raw eggs in the batter, because there's a chance they contain salmonella.

  • Generally speaking, no. The arguements are out there about raw eggs, etc. But most anyone over 30 yrs has grown up eating, rather sneaking, cookie dough.
Go for it. Just don't gobble down the whole batch.

  • well its bad to eat too much- becuase its like eating cookies
but it has raw eggs in it- you cant get some life threatening decease, but you might get sick for like a day or two

  • unless you have a chicken in your backyard that has good eggs no because the eggs from the store are sometimes bad

  • While many of us "grew up eating cookie dough", almost all of life is different now.
If you and/or your children ever contract Salmonella, you will totally understand and feel guilty for a very long time.

  • The cookie dough arguement stems from the possibilities of salmonella and a variety of other issues contained in raw eggs.

If you're not pregnant (as the dear lady above me is)-it's your choice to take a chance. Food poisoning sucks, however. Usually I end up licking off the spoon when I make cookies, though, too (I beat the batter up the old way. Without an electric mixer ;) ).

  • my hubby and i get into this argument everytime I bake something.
The kids and I always lick the beaters and the bowl and hubby says NO you should not because of the raw eggs.
But I have yet to get sick...from them
I can tell the way my luck runs after saying this the kids and I will get sick from it just because I said we never have.

  • If raw eggs are in the dough, yes, salmonella

  • Actually it is a very slim chance that raw eggs have salmonella. I mean there is ALWAYS a chance that is why they say not to.Most eggs in this country are NOT contaminated. But it is far worse to suffer from food posioning than to be wrong. I have eaten raw cookie dough and never paid the price

  • all that "could be" bad is the raw eggs. But store bought cookie dough is the same....so if you feel comfortable eating one, go ahead and eat the other.

Pregnant women can't eat raw or undercooked eggs. Therefore, I've gone without cookie dough for over 7 months now....I can't wait to have my cookie dough again in December!

No bake oatmeal raisin cookies? Not a lot of time, money, or talent. What can I make?
